Clergy Evaluation

Evaluation is a continuous process for formation in servant ministry and servant leadership that must take place in a spirit of understanding and acceptance. Evaluation serves as a process for pastors to assess their effectiveness in ministry and to discern God’s call to continue in ordained ministry. . . The pastors in local churches shall participate annually in an evaluation with the committee on pastor-parish relations for use in an ongoing effective ministry and for identifying continuing education needs and plans. The Book of Discipline, 2004, ¶350

The Ministry Cabinet (Conference Lay Leader, Director of Stewardship and Finance, Director of Connectional Ministries, the District Superintendents and I) believes that the “Covenant for Vital Ministries” is a helpful means to engage in conversations with persons in your churches or ministry settings.  Although not a perfect tool, it offers many positive outcomes if we take the time and expend the energy to complete it. Along with your Board of Ordained Ministry, we are asking all persons under appointment or assignment to engage in the process of completing the “Covenant for Vital Ministries” beginning in the Fall of 2009.

Those who are in local church appointments or assignments are expected to complete the Covenant with your Staff Parish Relations Committee(s) or equivalent group; those in extension ministries are to covenant with the governing body of the institution or agency where you serve.  Our expectation is that those of you in local church settings will complete the Covenant by your charge conference date.  Those who are in extension ministry appointments will complete the Covenant by January 4, 2010.
